Makes me Feel Weird

Besides snowstorms before Halloween, here are some other seasonally inappropriate occurrences that make me feel weird this time of year:

  • People who wear puffy jackets when its pushing 60 degrees out.
  • People who wear Ugg boots with bare legs.
  • People who wear puffy jackets with bare legs.
  • People who go sockless in flats, yet bundle up everywhere else.
  • People who wear hoods under hats (this makes me feel weird any time of year).
  • People who wear hats under hoods (only excusable if it's blizzarding).
  • People who wear scarves that fall longer than their skirts.
  • People who wear shorts over tights AND slap on the Ugg boots.
  • People who wear Ugg boots and mistake leggings for pants (see video bellow)
  • People who dress their babies in equally as weather-inappropriate outfits as they dress themselves. (i.e. the baby in the snowsuit whose stroller passes by the baby in the sleeveless onesie)

These are just some I witnessed on my commute today - I'm sure I will have more to add as the season roars on. Come on people - seize the little bit of fall we have and embrace jacket weather while it lasts!

Bill Cunningham New York

If you haven't seen it already, SEE IT! Seriously, not only does it open your eyes to the god father of street fashion, but it paints a lovely, if not sad, profile of a man whose work is so prolific it is recognized world wide. In the words of Anna Wintour, "We all get dressed for Bill".

I could give a full review, but the documentary and Bill's legacy speak for themselves.
Check it out.

For You, Four Eyes

Named for Jack Kerouac's characters, Zagg Parker and Warby Pepper, glasses designer Warby Parker is one of the best kept secrets in eyewear. Their mission: "to create boutique-quality, classically crafted eyewear at a revolutionary price point".

And revolutionary they are. Where else can you find fashion forward prescription eyewear for under 100 bucks? I'm used to spending upwards of $300 for frames alone! Check out this comparison chart - as they say, the proof is in the pudding - and this pudding runs cheap!

How do they offer designer glasses at such a reasonable price? Well, they do what all morally conscious craftsmen should - they eliminate the middle man. They create their own designs and unlike most high-end eyewear designers, they actually produce their own product. By selling online and showcasing their work is small boutiques, Warby Parker is able to bypass the retailers altogether. And by bypassing the retailers, Warby eliminates the astronomical markups that lead to eye-popping prices.

Buy wait, it get's better! For every pair of eyeglasses sold, Warby Parker gives a pair to someone in need. Over 50,000 pairs have been donated to date. Glasses are distributed in under developed and developing nations such as Afghanistan, El Salvador, Ethiopia, Cambodia, Ukraine, Bulgaria, and Egypt, just to name a few!

So next time you're looking to spice up those lenses, do some good while you're at it. Its a favor to your wallet and to the world. And believe me, you will not have to compromise style to save a penny. They have 27 designs and counting. They even sell a monocle! What's even better is you can order up to five pairs of glasses to try on at home free of charge. After five days, pick the frame that's best for you and send the rest back -- now if you ask me, that's custom customer service at its best! Check 'em out.

Stick 'em Up! Oh...that's your iphone...

So, I've been hesitant to share this with the world but since it seems to have gotten a lot of press on the web recently I think I shall share away...
Two decembers ago I received a gift from my mother (as per request) for an awesome looking gun holster thing I saw this guy wearing at a bar downtown somewhere. I asked him about it and it turned out that he made them in his shop which was down the street from that bar downtown somewhere. I wrote down the name of it on a cocktail napkin (madmen!) and promptly googled it and put it on my Christmas list immediately (being that it was over 100 bucks)! Not only does this leather holster work as a iphone holder that has a space for your headphones to slide out but it also has an extra pocket for your ultra slim wallet! Daaaaammnn. Of course, you could use the holster for things other than a phone and a wallet..
So next time you're about to hit that grimy concert hall in the dead of august with your pockets completely full of keys and change and whatever, now you have a place to store your phone AND your wallet so that nobody steals it from you while you're rocking out with your %#@$ out, and nobody will try and fuck with you if they think you're carrying heat -- well, actually, just make sure they don't body check you at the door from wearing this.
Get yours Moneypenny.
